Welcome to RokBites, your bi-weekly guide to brushing up on RokDoc techniques. 👩‍💻💡

This week, we're diving into a fully integrated Gassmann fluid substitution and AVO modelling workflow - all in one, in RokDoc Rock Physics.

Hit play on the video below for a full demo of the integrated workflow or jump to the summary below to start!

Enhancing Reservoir Analysis with streamlined feasibility study

Hello, reservoir professionals! If you're aiming to elevate your reservoir analysis, the Saturation workflow in RokDoc is here to assist. This tool is designed to streamline your processes and boost efficiency: a multi-well solution from Gassmann fluid substitution to AVO analysis.

This workflow offers a consistent and standardized approach across multiple wells, ensuring you maintain control at every stage. It's like having a reliable partner in your inversion feasibility journey.

The goal of the workflow is to obtain a full understanding of how sensitive your reservoir rock is to fluid change, and then model that change in the elastic space, thus accessing precious AVO insights.

This workflow will ensure you start assessing inversion techniques with accurate prior knowledge of your reservoir elastic properties - and how easy it might be to detect hydrocarbon content from seismic inversion processes.

Preparing for Success

Before you begin, ensure your data is ready. The workflow’s checklist helps you confirm the z-stick and set up sand and shale intervals, laying the groundwork for accurate modeling.

Flexible Fluid Selection

One of the standout features is the flexibility in fluid selection. Whether you're working with brine, oil, gas, or custom fluids like CO2 and heavy oil, this workflow adapts to your reservoir's unique needs.

Insightful QC Plots

Understanding your rock frame's stiffness is crucial, and the dry rock modeling QC plots provide valuable insights. In fact, from a single look at the stiffness plot (Kmin/K vs Porosity) you will be able to check the fluid effect in your reservoir.

If the data points are plotting in the low Kmin/K and higher porosity region, the rock is more prone to fluid effects and there will be strong differences in the elastic properties and thus in the seismic response when changing the fluid content from brine to hydrocarbon. A stiffer rock, instead, will be showing less variations in the elastic properties from brine to hydrocarbon saturation.

You can easily modify and save different scenarios to ensure your modeling is accurate.

Advanced AVO and Impedance Analysis

The workflow integrates AVO modeling, allowing for detailed analysis of fluid behavior. You have full control over angles and reflectivity, enabling precise synthetic model creation.

In the impedances QC step, explore relationships between acoustic and shear impedance, and more. The crossplot display offers flexibility in visualizing data for each fluid case.

Comprehensive Integration and Visualization

In the final stages of the workflow, integrate and visualize your results. Create synthetic seismic gathers, perform EEI angle scanning, and save your findings consistently across wells. The well viewer panel provides a complete view of all fluid cases, helping you see the big picture.

The best part? It's all populated automatically and there is no button-clicking to set up all those log and gather tracks, leaving you more time for analysis.

Conclusion

The Saturation workflow in RokDoc is a valuable asset for reservoir specialists and generalists alike, approaching reservoir characterisation. It empowers the geoscientist to conduct thorough feasibility studies with ease.

Whether you're using hydrocarbon fluids or exploring CO2 options, this workflow enhances your reservoir analysis integrating a multi-well solution.

Why not fire up RokDoc and observe how your data can be effectively analyzed?
